HOW DOES physiotherapy TREATMENT WORK?

During your initial consultation at our Toowong clinic, our physiotherapists will thoroughly assess and understand the nature of your injury. They'll conduct an extensive examination to pinpoint the core reason behind your discomfort and offer a diagnosis. With a clear grasp of the issue, our team can then commence targeted treatment for your condition.

  • Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique (ART for short) uses muscle release techniques that involve shortening and lengthening the muscle under pressure to break up scar tissue and muscle tightness. It’s our primary method for treating problems relating to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.

  • Joint Manipulation

Joint manipulation is when a chiropractor adjusts a joint with a quick thrust motion (commonly known as getting your ‘cracked’) to decrease pressure or discomfort on the joint. Whilst definitely helpful, most chiropractors only focus on this area, but at Elite HP we use multiple techniques for a more holistic approach.

  • Dry Needling

Dry needling is used to elicit a response from your soft tissues (the muscle will often ‘twitch’) to release tension and aid healing. Think of it like a super-deep massage which can be both incredibly helpful and satisfying. Whilst it might look like acupuncture, dry needling is more focused on releasing tensions and knots.

  • Exercise Therapy

Our goal is to help you live pain-free long term, and even though we love seeing you, we’ve truly succeeded if you don’t need to come back! In addition to hands-on therapy, our West End chiropractor will provide you with a specific rehabilitation program to better manage your sports injury and try to prevent it from returning.

Frequently Asked Physiotherapy Questions

  • At Toowong Physiotherapy, we're dedicated to alleviating pain by discerning its root cause and devising a bespoke treatment strategy to tackle it. This approach often merges targeted exercises to enhance strength, flexibility, and range of motion with hands-on therapy methods such as massage or joint mobilisation. Furthermore, our senior sports physiotherapist might incorporate treatments like heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, or electrotherapy to mitigate pain and inflammation. By addressing the root problem rather than merely suppressing symptoms, musculoskeletal physiotherapy ensures long-term pain relief.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy stands out as a crucial means of injury prevention, aiding in pinpointing and rectifying inherent bodily weaknesses or imbalances heightening injury risks. An adept physiotherapist might craft a tailored exercise routine to fortify and stabilise muscles around a wounded joint, enhancing overall function whilst minimising reinjury risks. Additionally, our senior sports physiotherapist can offer guidance on the correct form and techniques for activities such as sports or weightlifting, serving as a proactive measure against typical injuries down the line.

Overall, physiotherapy and sports physiotherapy is a non-invasive and effective approach to managing pain and prevent future injury/sporting injury. By consulting with our Toowong physiotherapist, individuals can create a personalised treatment plan to address their unique needs and goals.
