HOW Does BRISBANE PHYSIOTHERAPY treatment work?

In your first consultation, our Brisbane physiotherapists will do a deep dive to properly understand your injury and how it’s affecting you. Then they will take you through a comprehensive examination to find the root cause of your pain and provide a diagnosis. Once our Brisbane physiotherapists know what’s going on, they can start treating your condition.

Exercise Theraphy

Exercise Therapy

Our goal is to help you live pain-free long term, and even though we love seeing you, we’ve truly succeeded if you don’t need to come back! In addition to the hands-on therapy you receive, our physiotherapists will provide you with a specific rehabilitation program to better manage your injury and try to prevent it from returning.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique (ART for short) uses muscle release techniques that involve shortening and lengthening the muscle under pressure to break up scar tissue and muscle tightness. It’s our Brisbane physiotherapists’ primary method for treating problems relating to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is used to elicit a response from your soft tissues (the muscle will often ‘twitch’) to release tension and aid healing. Think of it like a super-deep massage which can be both incredibly helpful and satisfying. Whilst it might look like acupuncture, Brisbane dry needling is more focused on releasing tensions and knots.

Brisbane physio FAQs

How can physiotherapy help with pain management and injury prevention?

Brisbane physiotherapy care plays a crucial role in managing a clients pain by identifying the root cause of the pain and developing a tailored treatment plan to address it. A physiotherapist will use a combination of targeted exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion, as well as manual therapy techniques such as massage or joint mobilisation. Additionally, our senior sports physiotherapist may use modalities like heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, or electrotherapy to reduce pain and inflammation. By targeting the underlying issue causing the pain, rather than simply masking the symptoms with medication, physical therapy can provide lasting pain relief.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy is also a valuable tool for injury prevention as it can help identify and address underlying bodily weaknesses or imbalances that increase the risk of injury. For example, an experienced physiotherapist may develop a specific workout regimen to strengthen and stabilise the muscles surrounding an injured joint, improving overall function and reducing the risk of reinjury. Additionally, a sports physiotherapist can provide education on proper form and technique for activities like sports or lifting, which can help prevent common future injuries.

A physiotherapist can effectively treat a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Knee pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Shin splints
  • Tennis elbow
  • Ankle sprains
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sciatica
  • Hip pain
  • Chronic pain

Overall, physiotherapy and sports physiotherapy is a non-invasive and effective approach to managing pain and preventing future injuries. By consulting with our Brisbane physiotherapist, patients can create a personalised treatment plan to address their unique needs and goals.

Is physiotherapy painful?

No, physiotherapy should not be painful. In fact, physical therapy is focused on relieving pain and promoting healing. While you may experience temporary discomfort or mild soreness during certain therapeutic techniques, our dedicated Brisbane physiotherapist will prioritise your comfort and well-being throughout the treatment process. We work towards helping you find relief from pain and improve your overall quality of life

Do I need to keep coming back for physiotherapy?

No! The Elite physiotherapist method is about fixing your injury. If you keep coming back, our Brisbane physiotherapists haven’t done their job. As much as we love our clients we are happier when they are pain free.

What should I expect during my first physiotherapy appointment with a physical therapist?

Here at Elite HP your Brisbane sport physiotherapist will begin treatment on your first session. Once you have been through a thorough history and examination, treatment will commence.

Can I use private health for physiotherapy?

Absolutely! We have HICAPS facilities. This means we can swipe your Private Health Fund card and claim on the spot. Then you can choose to pay cash or card to pay the gap. We also accept Medicare (EPC) plans which are provided to you by your family doctor or GP. We are also treatment providers under the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) Treatment program and can treat those eligible under this scheme.

Do I need X Rays?

Our Brisbane physios are heavily trained in orthopaedic examination and functional anatomy as well as have masters degrees. Their experience means they very rarely require imaging. After a thorough history and examination, our senior physiotherapist will inform you if they think it is necessary to obtain imaging.

If you already have them you are more than welcome to bring them to your appointment.

What should I wear to my first physiotherapy session?

It is best, if possible, to wear clothing that allows your physiotherapist to see the affected site of pain or injury. Clothing that you would normally wear during exercise or physical activity that is flexible and easy to move in is best.

Do I need a referral for Physiotherapy services in Brisbane?

We do accept referrals at Elite HP, but a referral is not necessary to see our Brisbane physiotherapists. In some circumstances a GP referral will allow any eligible patient to access Medicare rebates. We also accept DVA claims and Work cover upon consultation with your GP.

Where is your physiotherapy clinic located?

At Elite Health & Performance, our state-of-the-art sport physiotherapy clinic is conveniently situated in Bowen Hills, a mere stone's throw away from New Farm, Newstead, Teneriffe, Fortitude Valley, Albion, and the bustling heart of Brisbane's CBD.
