HOW DOES physiotherapy TREATMENT WORK?
When you first visit our New Farm physio clinic, we will do an assessment so we can understand your pain and how it’s affecting you. After that, we do an examination to identify why your pain is happening and what our diagnosis is. Then we can start treatment to alleviate your pain.
Exercise Therapy
Exercise therapy is a key part of physiotherapy treatment that involves using specific exercises to improve function, mobility, and strength in patients with physical impairments or disabilities. The exercises prescribed are tailored to the patient's individual needs and goals and may include stretching, strengthening, and cardiovascular activities. Exercise therapy can help patients regain function, mobility, reduce pain, prevent injury, and improve quality of life.
Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique (ART) is a manual therapy used by physiotherapists to treat soft tissue injuries, such as muscle strains, ligament sprains, and tendonitis. ART involves applying pressure to the affected area while the patient actively moves the body part through a range of motion. This helps to break up adhesions, scar tissue, and other restrictions in the soft tissue, which can improve range of motion, reduce pain, and promote faster healing.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a used to alleviate pain and promote healing of musculoskeletal conditions. It involves inserting thin needles into trigger points or areas of tightness in the muscle to stimulate a healing response. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling targets specific points in the muscle, rather than along traditional Chinese meridians. The needles are typically left in place for a few minutes and may be manipulated to help release tension and improve circulation in the area.

How can physiotherapy help with pain management and injury prevention?
Brisbane Physiotherapy is essential in managing pain by identifying its root cause and developing personalised treatment plans. This includes targeted exercises for strength, flexibility, and range of motion, manual therapy techniques like massage or joint mobilisation, and modalities such as heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, or electrotherapy. By addressing the underlying issues rather than masking symptoms with medication, physiotherapy provides lasting pain relief. It also helps prevent injuries by identifying and addressing bodily weaknesses or imbalances. Conditions treated include lower back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, shin splints, tennis elbow, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, and hip pain.
Do I need to keep coming back for physiotherapy?
You will likely need to have a few sessions to properly fix your impairment, but our goal is to give you the treatment, knowledge and support so that you DON’T have to come back! The Elite method is about fixing your injury, not to see you every 2 weeks. If you keep coming back our New Farm physiotherapists haven’t done their job. As much as we love our patients we are happier when they are pain free.
Can I use private health for physiotherapy?
Yep! Our New Farm physiotherapy clinic offer HICAPS facilities, which means you can claim on the spot, and pay the gap via cash or card. Our clinic also accepts Medicare (EPC) plans that are prescribed by your family doctor or GP. Additionally, we are authorised treatment providers under the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) Treatment program and can provide care to eligible clients under this scheme
Do I need X Rays?
Our physiotherapists undergo extensive training in orthopaedic examination and functional anatomy, and many have completed advanced degrees in the field. Their expertise enables them to conduct a thorough evaluation of your condition, which often negates the need for imaging. However, if your practitioner believes that imaging is necessary, they will inform you accordingly. If you have already undergone imaging, you are welcome to bring the results to your appointment.
What should I wear to my physiotherapy appointment?
If feasible, it's advisable to wear clothing that enables your physiotherapist to visualize the area of pain or injury. We recommend wearing comfortable and flexible attire suitable for massage, exercise or physical activity. This will help facilitate movement and allow your physiotherapist to assess the affected site more accurately.
Do I need a referral to visit your New Farm physiotherapists?
At Elite HP, we welcome referrals from healthcare providers, but it's not mandatory to have one to see our physiotherapists. In certain cases, a GP referral may entitle eligible patients to access Medicare rebates. Additionally, we accept DVA claims and WorkCover insurance after consultation with your GP.
