Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system. ART is a movement based musculoskeletal technique that treats problems relating to:
  • Muscles
  • Tendons
  • Ligaments
  • Fascia
  • Nerves

How Does ART Work?

A.R.T is aimed at treating scar tissue that has been laid down from repetitive actions, trauma or overuse. This scar tissue demands an increased oxygen supply and inhibits muscular movement. When Scar tissue is present the muscle is unable to complete its full motion increasing the chance of injury and movement dysfunction. By extending the muscles under tension it allows the scar tissue to break apart and be re-absorbed into the body. The A.R.T provider uses his/her hands to palpate and evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining specifically directed tension with a shortening and lengthening movement of the associated muscles.

Common conditions treated using ART are:

  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Sprains/Strains
  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shin splints
  • Sciatica
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee problems
  • Tennis elbow

Our practitioners have all been certified in Active Release techniques.
